The Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) is proud to present its 2023-24 Annual Report, tabled in State Parliament in October.

The report details a busy year of engagements and achievements. It acknowledges, too, that the last 12 months have been a time of real challenge and strain for many communities, as the effects of global conflicts were felt locally.

In many ways, the challenges to multiculturalism – in policy and practice – have never been greater. Which makes the work of the VMC more important than ever.

Our Annual Report profiles our 12 dedicated commissioners who, collectively, attended more than 530 community events in 2023-24, engaging on issues such as mental health, family violence prevention, and cultural celebration.

There are profiles on key VMC initiatives, including the Multicultural Awards for Excellence, Cultural Diversity Week and Multicultural Film Festival.

And there’s a note, too, on the research report commissioned by the VMC to celebrate our 40th anniversary in 2023. The report traces the evolution of multiculturalism in Victoria – and makes observations about the central role of the VMC in supporting and promoting multiculturalism.

We thank our partners, staff and volunteers, whose unwavering support and tireless efforts made these achievements possible.
